About this park

Rest Area 30 km NW of Richmond or 35 km E of Bell. Next to recreation area

Bilpin Reserve is just off the main highway that travels from Penrith to Katoomba in the Blue Mountains, nestled between the Blue Mountains National Park on the south side of the road and the Wollemi National Park on the northern side.

The Reserve camping/parking area is alongside the local sporting oval and has a (currently closed) entrance to the Wollemi National Park at it’s furthest point – which is, of course, where we camped to keep as far away from the road noise as possible.

Being in the mountains made for a cool start today. But cool is good when you’re driving, and that’s what has to happen today…

We stopped briefly at the Lithgow Mitre 10 before continuing north-east past the interestingly named “Gardens of Stone” National Park, through Ilford, Mudgee and Gulgong before taking the Fork left to Wellington for lunch (FINALLY another Fork!!). We arrived in Dubbo early in the afternoon and easily settled into the friendly Dubbo City Holiday Park.

Then Rick got himself organised and a taxi took him to the airport – he’s off to Sydney and then Adelaide tonight, ready to catch the early flight into Roxby Downs tomorrow morning.
