I recently went down for a mate’s birthday and had a great couple of nights, fishing, relaxing and floating down the inlet that flows by the campsite into Pork Hacking and the Pacific.
Bonnie Vale Campground, minutes from Bundeena, provides powered sites, gas barbecues, flushing toilets and hot water showers to accompany their car based camping spots. Airbed, pillows, doona, percolated coffee for breakfast and the girlfriend still thought we were proper camping. Win win.
Saturday day we tried Marley Walk down to Marley Lagoon where we picnicked and lazed in the last of the summer sun. We spent the rest of our time reading and relaxing in and around the camp ground watching the kangaroos, cockatoos and even a massive goanna watch us warily. Definitely a nice break from the hustle and bustle of city life.
Sunday we just lingered, packed up slowly then checked out the town before a leisurely drive back to the big smoke.
For those looking for something a little more adventurous and a spot of walking I’m told you can ferry in, traverse the 26km coastal walk and train out at the other end. The walk winds along the coast and takes you over stunning sandstone cliffs covered in dense wind blow coastal shrub. Look out for sea birds, wales migrating north and your friendly fellow walkers if you need a walking stick. Stay overnight at one of a number of campsites with varying facilities along the way before jumping a train from Stanwell Park or Otford.
