Day 9: Tocumwal to Shepparton to Melbourne. 3 hours, 16 minutes, 270 km.
Hacky sack count: 8 - 22 stands as our best.
Overall Grade: B+ - the trip was coming to an end.
Left Town Beach camping area in Tocumwal and breakfasted at the Local Bakery on recommendation from a friend back home. The pies were good and they seemed to be doing a brisk little trade as we hunkered down from the early morning cold with a pie and hot tea.
Once on the road it was a fairly straight drive along the highway heading into Melbourne, we stopped at a couple of strawberry farms but the season seemed to have come to an end. Instead they're farming Eggplants and other winter crops but it was cool to have a walk around their orchard and check our the tents where they grow their strawberries. And somehow we did manage to pick-up some pretty damn good post seasonal strawberries for $4 a box. Apparently this very yield was part of a gold-medal winning jam recently. I can’t begin to describe the taste, MMMMM, so I’ll just let you imagine.
Stayed on the outskirts of town at another Big 4 caravan park - Ashley Gardens - in a cabin and spent the evening compiling notes from the trip. It was nice to have a proper bed and warm shower with good water pressure. It's definitely the simple things in life.
